The Story

Soft pink blooms with an enchanting fragrance

The Alnwick Rose Shrub is a delightful addition to any garden, showcasing pretty, many-petalled, cupped blooms of soft pink that can light up any landscape. Its rich Old Rose fragrance, enhanced by lively raspberry notes, will draw you in and delight your senses throughout the growing season. This stunning shrub blooms in flushes from early summer until the first frosts, ensuring your garden remains vibrant and fragrant for months on end.

Beyond its lovely flowers, this shrub forms a nicely rounded, slightly upright shape, making it a perfect choice for borders or as an eye-catching centerpiece. The plentiful glossy green foliage acts as a beautiful backdrop, enhancing the soft petals and providing a lush contrast. Named for The Alnwick Garden in the UK, this rose has a charming history and is sure to become a cherished feature of your garden.

About David AustinĀ®:Ā David Austin Roses is a family-run breeder with over 60 years of expertise, known for creating exceptional English roses that combine beauty, fragrance, and strong garden performance. Each rose is carefully hand-bred and grown using traditional methods, resulting in distinctive varieties prized for their charm, health, and elegance.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil for optimal growth. Dig a hole that is twice as wide as the root ball but no deeper. Place the shrub in the hole, filling in the gaps with soil, and water thoroughly to eliminate air pockets. Ā Spread a layer of mulch three feet around the plant to conserve moisture, insulate roots, and suppress weeds.

2. Watering: Maintain consistent moisture, especially during the first growing season. After establishment, water deeply once a week or more often in hot, dry periods. Always water at the base of the plant and avoid overhead watering, as this promotes disease, especially in humid climates.

3. Pruning: In winter, prune for structure by removing any crossing, dead, or diseased canes. Ā The plant can be cut back by a third during yearly pruning. Ā During the growing season, deadhead by cutting the flower at the base where it joins the stem or cut just above a set of five leaflets.

4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to support growth and blooming. Another fertilizer application can be made in early spring.
