Planting & Care
1. Planting: Spruce It Upâ„¢ tolerates a wide range of soil types, as long as there is good drainage. Choose a spot that receives full sunlight (6 to 8 hours per day).
To plant, dig your hole shallower than the root ball and at least twice its width, loosening the soil throughout so that the roots can break through easily. Then, back fill the hole while applying water to remove any air pockets.
For container planting, select a pot that’s about one and a half or two times bigger than the container Spruce It Up™ arrives in. Follow the planting directions below and place in an area with adequate sunlight.
2. Watering: Water regularly and deeply, weekly or more often in extreme heat, during the first full growing season – this will ensure that it establishes a thorough, extensive root system. The watering schedule will be the same for both container planting and ground planting. If you’re not sure when to water, simply check the soil – if it’s dry at 2 inches down, it’s time to water.
3. Fertilizing: For faster, fuller growth, you may also fertilize your tree before new growth begins during spring.
4. Pruning: Minimal pruning will be necessary for this dwarf evergreen, as it is naturally pyramidal.
