The Story
Watch Pollinators Flock to this Butterfly Bush
The Butterfly Towers™ White Buddleia will attract more bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds than you have ever seen! All summer long this deciduous shrub grows tall clusters of bright white flowers that are impossible to resist (except for deer and rabbits who don’t care for the taste and will leave this plant alone!)
This classic perennial offers blooms that last from June through early fall, providing months of visual interest. Easy to grow and maintain, Butterfly Towers™ requires very little upkeep. With a spread of only 2-3 feet, it’s the ideal addition to any size space.
Butterfly Towers™' narrow, upright growth habit makes it perfect for planting in groupings to create natural screens and barriers, or when added as a stand-alone accent. Versatile and hardy, the white flowers are beautifully accented by elongated, arrow-shaped blue-green leaves that provide a stunning boost to any landscape. Add this lovely butterfly bush to your collection today!
About Southern Living®: The Southern Living® Plant Collection was created to bring gardeners plants that truly thrive in real-world landscapes. Planting & Care
1. Planting: The Butterfly Towers™ White Buddleia isn't picky about soil type, as long as it is well-draining. Plant your butterfly bush where it will receive full to partial sun. Dig a hole twice as deep as the container, then backfill and plant 1″-2″ above soil level. Water and add more soil if needed. Mulch 1-2″ deep around the plant, avoiding the area closest to the stem.
2. Watering: Ensure the area has well-draining soil. Once planted, your Butterfly Bush should be watered once or twice weekly. The soil must be moist at least 6 to 8 inches deep. Once watered, allow the soil to dry out before watering again.
3. Fertilizing: Butterfly Bushes rarely need fertilizer unless you are dealing with poor soil conditions. If that is the case, you can use a slow-release fertilizer for your plants. Follow the instructions on the package of your fertilizer and be certain to water deeply afterwards.
4. Pruning: Prune in spring, after the new growth emerges. Remove weak branches in the middle and about 1/2 to 2/3 of the height and width. Make cuts just about 1/4 of an inch above a bud. Dead or damaged wood can be removed at any time - just cut back to a set of leaves.
