The Story

Bright colors and exceptional heat tolerance elevate your landscape

The Sombrero® Adobe Orange Echinacea Plant lights up the garden with bold, vibrant orange blooms that flower all summer long, delivering color that truly stands out in beds and borders. Part of the highly floriferous Sombrero series, this improved selection is naturally well branched and compact, producing abundant blooms on a uniform, sturdy habit. The varieties in this series are well matched in timing and growth, creating a cohesive, polished look in the landscape. Even better, plant Sombrero in the spring and enjoy blooms in the very same year—no long wait required.

Sombrero’s vibrant color is matched by exceptional winter hardiness and outstanding landscape performance, making it a reliable choice in a wide range of climates. In addition to its durability, this coneflower attracts beneficial pollinators like bees and butterflies, supporting a lively, biodiverse garden. Adaptable to various soil types and growing conditions, Sombrero® Adobe Orange offers season-long beauty, improved performance, and dependable returns year after year.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Create a hole twice as wide as the root ball, and set the plant at the same depth it was previously growing. Backfill with soil and water thoroughly.

2. Watering: Water the plant regularly, particularly during dry spells. Aim to keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Once established, it is somewhat drought-tolerant.

3. Pruning: Prune spent flowers to encourage more blooms and tidy up the plant’s shape. In fall, leave stems and seed heads on plants, as they are a favorite of birds and add interest to the winter garden.  Cut stems down in early spring, making way for new growth.

4. Fertilizing: Fertilize lightly in spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer. Avoid excessive feeding, as this can lead to weaker plants and fewer blooms.
