The Story

Robust, Spring-Blooming Rhododendron

The PJM Elite Rhododendron’s large clusters of trumpet-shaped blooms are the perfect way to welcome the growing season! Enjoy a bounty of vibrant, frilly, purple-pink flowers that sit atop glossy, aromatic leaves. The rich, dark green foliage turns to a deep reddish-purple hue during the fall and winter, providing months of visual interest.

The PJM Elite Rhododendron is an excellent flowering shrub for cooler climates. This hybrid variety is popular for its hardiness, compact growth habit, and versatility. Easy to care for and maintain, it is highly attractive to a variety of pollinators.

Ideal for use as a specimen or in mass plantings, this rhododendron fits in effortlessly no matter where it is added. Plant it in rows to create hedges, use for landscape borders and mixed beds, or opt for a decorative container on a patio or porch. The bright, showy PJM Elite is always impressive! Grow yours today!

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant your Rhododendron in an area that receives full to partial sunlight (4 to 6 hours of sunlight daily).

Dig a hole about twice the size of your shrub's root ball, place your shrub, backfill the soil, and mulch the surrounding soil. Finally, water the area to settle the roots.

2. Watering: Keep soil evenly moist, especially during the first year. Avoid soggy conditions. Rhododendrons have shallow roots, so consistent watering in dry spells is important, particularly during bloom season.

Once established, give your Rhododendron a deep watering once your soil feels dry to the touch, down about two inches.

3. Fertilizing:  Apply a well-balanced fertilizer annually at the start of the season.

4. Pruning: Rhododendrons typically do not need much pruning, but you can remove dead branches and shape as necessary after the flowers fade.
