Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a location with very well-drained soil in partial to full sun. While Perfume Princess⢠can tolerate more sun, afternoon shade is recommended in warmer climates. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and gently loosen the roots before placing the plant in the hole. Backfill with soil, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding ground. Water thoroughly after planting. Apply a layer of mulch extending about 3 feet around the plant to conserve moisture and protect the roots.
2. Watering: Water regularly in the first few months to help establish roots. Once established, Daphne Perfume Princess⢠prefers moderate watering. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings, but avoid letting it become completely dry.
3. Pruning: Prune after flowering to encourage denser growth and maintain a tidy shape. Dead or diseased wood may be removed at any time of year.
4. Fertilizing: In early spring, apply a slow-release fertilizer such as Espoma Garden ToneĀ® 5-10-5 to support healthy growth and abundant blooms. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers, which can lead to leggy growth. A light additional feeding in late summer may be applied if needed to support continued vigor.
