A compact beauty with glossy leaves
Luscious Lavender™ Redbud Tree is a standout native ornamental that delivers a bold spring show and polished, season-long structure. In early spring, bright magenta-purple blooms appear densely along the branches before the foliage emerges, creating a fuller, more vibrant floral display that’s hard to miss. After flowering, glossy, heart-shaped green leaves fill in for a fresh, refined look through the growing season, then shift to golden yellow tones in fall.
With its naturally compact, rounded form, this redbud is a great choice for smaller yards, planting under power lines, or adding color and shape to tight landscape spaces. It also offers excellent disease resistance and attracts pollinators like bees and butterflies, making it a beautiful way to support local ecosystems while enhancing your garden’s curb appeal.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a location with full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil. In warmer zones, plant in morning sun with afternoon shade for best growth. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and just as deep. Before planting, remove any temporary bamboo stake and ties. Staking is not usually needed, but trees may be staked for up to 6 months in windy climates. Drive a wood or metal stake into the ground just outside the root ball and secure the tree with soft, flexible ties. Backfill with a mixture of native soil and compost. Spread a 3-inch settled layer of mulch at least 3 feet around the tree, keeping mulch several inches away from the trunk. Water deeply after planting.
2. Watering: Water the tree regularly during the first summer to establish a strong root system. After that, it requires moderate watering. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings.
3. Pruning: Prune in late winter to encourage healthy growth and shape the tree. Remove any dead or damaged branches and thin out crowded areas to improve airflow.
4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to promote vigorous growth. Follow package instructions for dosing based on the size of your tree.
